Good oral care is the beginning of a healthy lifestyle.

Peridontal (gum) disease has been linked to heart disease and stroke, diabetes, and kidney disease.  You may wonder, how does this happen?  There is bacteria in your mouth – most of which is harmless. Normally your body’s natural defenses and good oral health care, such as daily brushing and flossing, can keep these bacteria under control. But, sometimes the harmful bacteria can sometimes grow out of control and cause oral infections, such as tooth decay and gum disease.

At the Cecchini Advanced Center for Dentistry, we believe it is important to educate our patients on the importance of practing good oral health and living a healthy lifestyle.

What can you do to ensure a healthy mouth?

  •  Practice good oral hygiene. Brush thoroughly but gently at least twice a day (after every meal if possible) and floss daily.
  •  Seek regular preventive dental care.  Your dental hygienist can remove plaque and tartar that brushing doesn’t get.
  •  Don't put off getting treatment for dental problems.
  •  Eat a healthy diet.
  •  Be sure to change your toothbrush every three months, especially after an illness like a cold or the flu.
